Eco-Council

At Radwinter, we believe in nurturing every child to embrace life in all its fullness. Our Eco Council plays a vital role in bringing this vision to life by empowering children to care for the environment and develop a deep respect for the natural world around them.

What is Eco Council?

The Eco Council is a dedicated group of pupils who meet regularly to review and plan projects that promote sustainability and environmental stewardship within our school and wider community. Through their active participation, our children learn valuable skills and develop a sense of responsibility that reflects our Christian values of fairness, kindness, respect, and service.

Our Eco Council Projects and Activities

  • Radwinter Refill Shop: The Eco Council runs a pop-up Refill Shop that encourages reducing plastic waste by promoting reusable containers and environmentally friendly alternatives.
  • School Garden Care: Children take pride in looking after our school garden, learning about plant life, biodiversity, and the importance of nurturing living things.
  • Litter Picking: Regular litter picking sessions help keep our school grounds and local area tidy, teaching children the impact of waste and the importance of caring for our environment.
  • Environmental Assemblies: The Eco Council leads assemblies to raise awareness about environmental issues, inspiring the whole school community to take positive action.
  • Special Events: We participate in occasions such as World Oceans Day, where children explore global environmental challenges and consider their role in protecting our planet.

Developing Skills and Values Through Eco Council

Our Eco Council is more than just a group of children picking up litter or planting seeds. It is a platform where children are encouraged to:

  • Question the world around them and think critically about their place within it.
  • Aspire to be the best version of themselves, developing confidence as they take on leadership roles.
  • Be role models within the school community by demonstrating care and concern for the environment.
  • Live out our Christian values through acts of service and stewardship of God’s creation.

By engaging in these activities, children not only contribute positively to the environment but also grow in wisdom, hope, community, and dignity, core values that underpin everything we do at Radwinter CofE (VA) Primary School.

Join Us in Supporting Our Eco Council

We warmly invite parents and members of the wider community to support and celebrate the efforts of our Eco Council. Whether it’s joining us for a litter pick, helping with gardening projects, or using our Pop-up Refill shop, your involvement helps nurture a generation that values and protects the world we live in.

In Summary

Our Eco Council embodies Radwinter CofE (VA) Primary School’s commitment to growing and learning together to embrace life in all its fullness. Through practical environmental projects and leadership opportunities, our children develop skills and values that prepare them for a diverse and ever-changing world.

Together, we can inspire our children to make a lasting difference—for themselves, their community, and the planet.
