Safeguarding

Safeguarding at Radwinter CofE (VA) Primary School

We are dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where every child is empowered to thrive. Our Christian ethos of “Growing and learning together to embrace life in all its fullness” (John 10:10) guides our commitment to the wellbeing and protection of every child entrusted to us.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

We recognise that safeguarding is fundamental to our role as educators and carers. The welfare of children is paramount in all decisions and actions taken by our school community. We embrace the values of fairness, kindness, respect, and service, ensuring that every child is safe from harm and able to thrive both academically and personally.

At Radwinter CofE (VA) Primary School:

  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have an equal right to protection from all forms of harm and abuse.
  • We understand that some children may be more vulnerable due to previous experiences, communication needs, or other challenges, and we work diligently to support them.
  • We actively work in partnership with children, their families, and external agencies to promote the welfare and safety of every child.

Our Safeguarding Team

Our safeguarding structure ensures that every concern is taken seriously and acted upon promptly:

How We Keep Children Safe

We follow best practice and legal requirements to ensure safeguarding is effective and comprehensive:

  • Listening and Valuing Children: We create a culture where children feel heard, respected, and confident to share any worries or concerns.

  • Clear Policies and Procedures: Our safeguarding policies, staff conduct codes, and child protection procedures are regularly reviewed and rigorously applied by all staff and volunteers.  Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy can be found here:

    Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
  • Online Safety: We have an effective online safety policy in place to protect children in the digital world, educating them about safe and responsible internet use.

  • Staff Training and Support: All staff and volunteers receive regular safeguarding training, supervision, and support to confidently uphold our safeguarding standards.

  • Safe Recruitment: We carefully recruit and vet all staff and volunteers to ensure they are suitable to work with children.

  • Confidentiality and Data Protection: Information relating to safeguarding is recorded, stored, and shared securely and professionally, respecting privacy and legal requirements.

  • Information Sharing: We keep children and families informed about safeguarding practises and where to seek help, through leaflets, posters, group activities, and one-to-one discussions.

Working Together for Every Child

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We encourage parents, carers, and the wider community to work alongside us to maintain a safe environment for all children. If you have any concerns or need advice about a child’s safety or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact our safeguarding team.

Next Steps for Parents and Carers

  • Familiarise yourself with our safeguarding policies, available on our website or upon request from the school office.
  • Talk openly with your child about staying safe and who they can talk to if they feel worried.
  • Support our online safety guidance to help your child use technology responsibly.
  • Reach out to us immediately if you have any concerns about a child’s welfare.
